Singing for Puerto Rico

Hurricane Irma unfortunately wreaked havoc on many places in the East Coast of the Americas, one such place being the island of Puerto Rico. Over the past few weeks, I have met several new students coming from Puerto Rico. Their stories are heartbreaking: homes destroyed, families lost for hours, no gas, no electricity. Cypress Bay High School’s P.R.I.D.E club was putting on a talent show to raise money for disaster relief, and I thought that would be the perfect way for me to contribute to the cause. I signed up to sing "Corre" by Jesse and Joy and "Fuiste Tu" by Ricardo Arjona and Gaby Moreno, with the accompaniment of my friend Carlos Mino singing the male voice. The “Talent Show” was a very emotional night, especially for the performers who poured their hearts out on stage. Both Carlos and I placed, and even though the whole win/lose situation was not the purpose of this performance, I am a proud winner of the Cypress Bay High's yearly Talent Show along with Carlos.
